Novi student athletes searching for professional training to improve their athletic performance need only to travel as far at the Novi High School weight room.

For the past five years, the Novi Athletic Boosters has funded the Novi Strength and Conditioning Program, providing for the services of a professional athletic trainer to assist all Novi athletes and teams. The program comes at a cost of $25,000 per year for the academic year and summer program.

Four days a week during the school year and during a five-week summer session, student athletes receive guidance from the professional trainers of Total Performance Training Center, a program headed by Jim Kielbaso, former strength and conditioning trainer for University of Detroit Mercy.

According to Kielbaso, the strength and conditioning program has four main goals: to prevent athletes from being injured, prepare them psychologically for competition, enhance their performance and help them make body-composition changes.

“The number one goal is injury prevention,” Kielbaso said. “If an athlete is stronger, more flexible, more mobile, they can reduce their risk of injury.”

Monday to Thursday

All Athletes – 2 to 4:30 p.m.



Boys – 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. – Strength Training
Girls – 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Plyometrics and Conditioning


Boys – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Strength Training and Conditioning
Girls – 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Strength Training
