Boosters Recognized for Milestone

The Novi Information Network has recognized the Novi Athletic Boosters in its year-end editorial, “A Year in Novi and our Person of the Year” on the www.novi.org web site. Cited as the “Milestone of the Year,” the Boosters club’s “$1 Million and Counting” celebration weas recognized alongside other categories, including “Good News of the Year” and “Odd News of the Year.”

“Our Boosters club appreciates the nod at this time of year, but more than that, we appreciate all of the local news that the Novi Information Network provides our community year-round,” Boosters President Jay Dooley said of the web-based news organization established in 1998. “The network has been instrumental in helping our club get the word out about events and fund-raisers, allowing us to provide better support for Novi’s athletic teams and student athletes.”

The “$1 Million and Counting” celebration, on March 7 at Novi High School, recognized the effort of hundreds of volunteers and business sponsors in helping the Boosters to reach the $1 million milestone over a 10-year period. Past and present volunteers, local dignitaries and past Boosters presidents were on hand for the event.

In a Feb. 18 editorial, the Novi Information Network has initially recognized the Booster club’s accomplishment. “In this era of declining budgets and cutbacks, the Boosters have managed to create an organization that not only helps, but helps so much it’s actually shaping our children’s futures,” the editorial writer wrote.

The Boosters club was not alone among those in the Novi athletic community receiving attention in the Novi Information Network’s 2011 year-end roundup. The Chrysler minivan advertisement, which featured the Division I State Champion Novi Hockey Team, was noted as the “Advertisement of the Year.”
